With the publishing of the 2018 National Student Survey (NSS) results, the University of Sheffield has been ranked joint 6th in the Russell Group for overall satisfaction and is the number one Russell Group institution for learning community and second best for student voice. Our Geography courses also performed exceptionally well.

The NSS gathers the opinions of students from every university across the country. It can also help to inform prospective students’ choices, as well as helping to ensure the University that our students’ experience is the best it can be.

Our overall student satisfaction has increased from last year, with 87% overall satisfaction for BSc Geography and 90% for BA Geography. BA Geography was also joint 5th in the Russell Group for overall student satisfaction.

For BSc Geography, 95% of students thought staff were good at explaining things, while 97% said that staff made the subject interesting, which was the highest score in the Russell Group for this category. Meanwhile, our BA Geography courses also scored highly for opportunities to bring together information and ideas from different topics, highlighting the flexibility of our degree programmes.

BA Geography students also felt like they were able to easily contact staff, with Sheffield scoring particularly highly in this category compared to many other Russell Group institutions.
