The GRAS rankings use a range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of world universities in respective subjects, including research output, research influence, international collaboration, research quality, and international academic awards.
The Department of Geography performed strongly, reflecting its ethos as a collaborative environment with a focus on addressing international issues, particularly in the fields of social justice and environmental change.
The department offers undergraduate degrees in physical and human Geography and Environmental Science, as well as masters degrees in International Development (including specialised courses in public health, intercultural communication and environmental change) and Polar and Alpine Change.
Head of Department, Professor Jenny Pickerill, said: “It is wonderful to have the quality of our research and teaching recognised in this international ranking and to see Sheffield Geography placed alongside so many of the other world-leading geography departments with whom we collaborate.”
