EPSRC Faculty of Social Sciences ring-fenced scholarship

The Faculty of Social Science is seeking applications from candidates who propose to conduct research in an area that falls within EPSRC’s remit. Applications are welcome from candidates who wish to study in the Department of Geography.

Applications from all Social Science departments will be reviewed by the Faculty Director of Research and Innovation and the Faculty Director of Postgraduate Research and assessed on the basis of academic success and qualifications of the candidate and the quality of research proposal, including the fit with the EPSRC remit.

The award includes:

  • Tuition fees (UK or International) and a full maintenance stipend at the UKRI rate for up to three and a half years full-time study (seven years part-time study), subject to satisfactory progress
  • Access to Research and Training Support funds for conference, field and other expenses to the value of £4,500 for the duration of the stipend and tuition-fee paying period

Part-time studentships are paid at 50% of the full-time rate.

Eligibility

To be considered as eligible for nomination for this scholarship by the Department of Geography to the Faculty of Social Science panel you should have a first or upper second class UK honours degree or equivalent and have or be currently undertaking a Masters qualification in a relevant subject or discipline.

In addition, the proposed research must fall within EPSRC’s remit.

You should be applying to start your first year of PhD study on a full-time or part-time basis in the 2023/24 academic year.

Awards are open to Home and International applicants.

In addition, when completing the Funding section of the online form, indicate that you wish to be considered for the “Faculty of Social Science EPSRC scholarship”, and complete any necessary additional scholarship information required as part of the form.
