Western blotting
Western blotting is a widely used technique for detecting and analysing specific proteins within cells or tissues. It allows confirmation of both the presence and molecular weight of target proteins, and can also provide semi-quantitative information about their relative expression levels under different conditions.
In our research, we use Western blotting to assess the expression of proteins critical to hearing function, particularly in response to experimental variables such as noise exposure, aging, or genetic modification. This technique is valuable because it enables us to link changes in protein levels to physiological or behavioral outcomes, helping to clarify the molecular pathways involved in auditory processing and the progression of hearing loss.
