I have really enjoyed the Transformation of the United Kingdom module, as it felt like my two courses were combined and I could look at political and social history, an area I’ve always been interested in.

Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?

I was drawn to study at Sheffield by the amazing module choices on offer. I found that there were so many options to choose from, and that every one of my interests in History and Politics was covered by the modules. I also thought the student community was great as the student village and societies made it feel really welcoming.

Has your experience so far been what you expected?

My experience is a lot better than I expected. I was worried about struggling with the workload and seminars, however I really enjoy this now and am a lot more confident in participating with seminar discussions and interpreting different scholars arguments.

What do you particularly enjoy about your degree programme?

I’ve really enjoyed how interactive it is, especially in seminars. I’ve done things such as making posters, doing short presentations, or doing group work and discussing our readings. Each activity has really helped me further my understanding of the topic we studied, and made me a lot more confident in sharing my ideas with other people.

What modules are you studying this year? Are there any modules that you have particularly enjoyed during your degree so far and why?

I have studied ‘History Workshop’, ‘Disenchantment in early modern Europe’ and ‘The Transformation of the United Kingdom’. History workshop provided the foundation to study the course, helping us with skills for studying History. I have really enjoyed the Transformation of the United Kingdom module, as it felt like my two courses were combined and I could look at political and social history, an area I’ve always been interested in. My politics modules (‘Gender and the World’, ‘The Worlds Wicked Problems’ and ‘Analysing Politics’) were all really interesting and made me more aware of the issues that are currently taking place internationally, and how they could possibly be resolved. It also allowed me to gain an understanding of political concepts, which I hadn’t had the opportunity to learn about before.

If you're a dual student, what do you enjoy about doing a dual degree?

My subjects perfectly complement each other, and there are so many great things about both sides of the course. I have found it great how what I learn in Politics can come up in History, or vice versa. My skills gained in one subject can benefit me in the other, which has been extremely useful.

What do you like about the University/living in Sheffield?

I love all the range of things to do in Sheffield and the university. The nightlife is amazing, and there are so many good places to choose from. University opportunities such as Give It A Go mean you can try out a range of societies activities and find something you really enjoy.

Would you recommend studying at Sheffield to a friend?

I definitely would recommend studying here. There are so many great departments to study in, each with a great staff and welcoming community. The student life here is so active and great and the student union provide so many events and activities that suit all kinds of interests.
