Entry requirements for students from India

We have been welcoming students from India for many years and our staff are very familiar with the Indian education system and qualifications.

High entrance requirements for our degree programmes at Sheffield reflect the quality of the University.

All applicants are required to have an internationally recognised English language qualification such as IELTS or equivalent. The minimum score that is accepted for entry, in line with UKBA regulations, is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Standard XII English Language with at least 70% or above is generally accepted also. Please note that some departments may require a higher score.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate Programmes e.g. BSc, BA, BEng/ MEng

A variety of qualifications can be considered for direct admission to undergraduate bachelor degree programmes.

Indian Standard XII

Applicants with a minimum aggregate of 75% and 75-80% in key subjects at Standard XII will typically be considered for direct admission to undergraduate degree programmes.

Please note some departments will require a higher score. 

For Medicine A100: A minimum of 85% overall is required. To include 85% in Chemistry and another science. In addition A grades in A level Chemistry and another science are also required as well as the UKCAT.

A Levels Applicants with a minimum of 3 A levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes. Required scores and subjects vary from course to course and can be found in our online prospectus.
International Baccalaureate International Baccalaureate diploma holders will be considered for
direct admission to undergraduate programmes. Required scores and subjects vary from course to course and can be found in our online prospectus.

Postgraduate Taught Programmes e.g. MA, MSc

Holders of a 3 year Bachelors Degree

Holders of a three year bachelor degree with a minimum of 60% or "first class" from a reputable university will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or taught masters programmes.

Please note some departments will require a higher score.

Holders of a 4 year Bachelors Degree

Holders of a four year bachelor degree in science, engineering or technology degrees with a minimum of 60% or "first class" from a reputable university will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or taught masters programmes.

Please note some departments will require a higher score.

MBA applicants

As well as suitable qualifications (as per the information above) at least 3-5 years' post-graduation work experience will be necessary for direct admission to our triple accredited MBA.

Holders of a bachelor degree with a minimum of 60% or "first class" from a reputable university and a good masters degree with a minimum of 60% from a recognised university, will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate research programmes.

In exceptional cases, applicants with only a bachelor degree with a minimum of 60% from a reputable university may be considered for direct admission to postgraduate research programmes.
