Entry requirements for students from Bangladesh

The University of Sheffield accepts a number of different qualifications from Bangladesh. Some of the most common are listed below. If your qualification is not listed here, please contact us.

High entrance requirements for our degree programmes at Sheffield reflect the quality of the University.

All applicants are required to have an internationally recognised English language qualification such as IELTS. The minimum score that is accepted for entry, in line with UKVI regulations, is IELTS 6.0 or equivalent for Bachelors and 6.5 or equivalent at Masters level. Please note that some departments may require a higher score.

Undergraduate Programmes e.g. BSc, BA, BEng/ MEng

A variety of qualifications can be considered for direct admission to undergraduate bachelor degree programmes.

Higher Secondary Certificate    

Candidates who have successfully completed their HSC examinations in Bangladesh and who have also completed an approved Foundation Programme (such as those provided by Sheffield International College) can be considered for entry to undergraduate programmes.

A Levels    

Applicants with a minimum of 3 A levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes. Required scores and subjects vary from course to course and can be found in our online prospectus.

International Baccalaureate  

International Baccalaureate diploma holders will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes. Required scores and subjects vary from course to course and can be found in our online prospectus.

Bachelor Degree  

Applicants with 3+ years of a Bachelor degree from a recognised institution in Bangladesh will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes.

Undergraduate degree pathway programmes at the University of Sheffield International College

The University of Sheffield International College provides International Foundation Year programmes specifically for international students who want to progress to the University of Sheffield. Upon successful completion, students can progress to an undergraduate degree. Students can choose to study an International Foundation Year in the following subjects:


Postgraduate Taught Programmes e.g. MA, MSc

Holders of a 4 year Bachelors    

You will usually need a 4 year bachelors degree from a recognised university in a relevant subject for entry. 

Holders of a 3 or 4 year Bachelors followed by a Masters  

You will usually need a 3 or 4 year bachelors degree from a recognised university in a relevant subject followed by a 1 or 2 year Masters degree from a recognised institution for entry. You should meet the scores specified below in both degrees.

Most postgraduate courses require a UK 2:1 or equivalent for entry, but some courses may consider 2:2 grades. Please see our course finder for specific course requirements.

The score required will depend on the university you have attended and the course you have applied to study.

Postgraduate degree pathway programmes at the University of Sheffield International College

The University of Sheffield International College provides Pre-Masters programmes specifically for international students who want to progress to the University of Sheffield. Upon successful completion, students can progress to an postgraduate degree.Students can choose to study a Pre-Masters in the following subjects:


Postgraduate Research Programmes e.g. MPhil, PhD

With around 2,000 postgraduate research students from over 100 different countries, Sheffield is one of the leading centres for research training in the UK.

Search for a research area

You will usually need a bachelors degree AND a masters degree from a recognised university in a relevant subject for entry. Some courses may consider a bachelors degree on its own if it is combined with relevant research experience. Please see our departmental web pages for specific course requirements.
