What first attracted you to join the University of Sheffield?
I'd worked in the Higher Education sector before joining the University of Sheffield, so I already knew I wanted to work somewhere where I could make a positive difference to students and the wider community. I'd already interacted with the campus a fair bit as a resident of Sheffield, as I'd been to loads of gigs in the Octagon and our Students' Union. I'd also heard great things about working here from friends.
What do you enjoy most about working at the University of Sheffield?
Everyone you meet is passionate about their work and it feels like we're all working towards a common goal. The location of the city centre campus is really great too - it's close to Western Park, which is beautiful, and close to town and tram routes too. The employee benefits are also fab!
What do you enjoy about working in the department?
Everyone is so friendly and genuinely wants to help each other out and we proactively make time to connect as a department. Because we're a relatively large department supporting so many key areas of the University, there are lots of opportunities to get involved in different projects and initiatives which is great for professional development.
Did you move to Sheffield from another area?
I was already living here when I started at the University. I'm from West Yorkshire originally so I haven't moved far!
What’s your favourite thing about Sheffield as a city?
You hear this a lot in Sheffield but it feels like a big village. My favourite things about living here are visiting the Kelham Island area for socialising with friends and the Peak District is right on the doorstep.
What would you say to someone who was considering the University as a place to work?
Come and join us! It's such a fabulous place to work (I've been here over ten years) with plenty of opportunities for professional development and progression.
