Disabled job applicants
We aim to create an inclusive recruitment process for disabled applicants. Ensuring potential barriers for disabled people have been reduced or removed is one of the University's priorities, and we seek to achieve this in our staff recruitment processes.

Disability Confident
The University is committed to attracting, growing and engaging with talented people from diverse backgrounds at every level. As part of this commitment, the University recognises the importance of an inclusive University community, to ensure that all can flourish and reach their full potential.
The University of Sheffield is a certified Disability Confident Employer. Disability Confident is a government scheme designed to encourage employers to recruit and retain disabled people and those with health conditions.
Disability Confident (previously 'Two Ticks') is a recognition given by the Government's Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to employers based in Great Britain who have agreed to take action to meet thirteen commitments regarding the employment, retention, training and career development of disabled employees.
The ‘Offer a selection activity’ scheme
When applying for our roles, you can indicate whether you wish to opt-in under the Disability Confident scheme. We aim to invite all those applying under the scheme who meet the essential, application stage, person specification criteria, to participate in the first stage of the selection process (typically an interview), in line with the Disability Confident guidance (opens in a new window).
If you do apply via the Disability Confident scheme, the information will only be shared with the recruitment panel, the recruitment co-ordinator and the relevant members of our Human Resources team.
Requesting reasonable adjustments
During any part of the recruitment process, if you feel like you need a reasonable adjustment please let us know, and we will aim to accommodate where appropriate. We may ask you before our selection events and/or interview if you require any, but you can also let us know at any point by emailing the informal contact for the role (which can be found in our further information section of our job descriptions). Requesting adjustments will not disadvantage your application.
