Enrolment options

You can either study a language as part of your degree (using credits) or alongside your degree (not-for-credit modules).

Credit

Masters students can take Languages for All modules as part of their degree. You can explore our range of languages here: Choose a language.

The majority of Languages for All modules are worth 10 credits. As Masters modules are worth 15 credits, Masters students who study with the MLTC will also automatically be enrolled in the Enhanced Languages module (worth 5 credits).

Not-for-credit

The University of Sheffield offers language study as an extra-curricular activity in addition to studies within degree programmes.

Not-for-credit modules are provided by the Modern Languages Teaching Centre and the School of East Asian Studies.

Not-for-credit modules will not

  • be included in the 180 credits that form your degree.
  • count towards your overall mark for the year.
  • affect your ability to graduate.
