Teaching is a core activity of the AUPMC. We deliver approximately 17% of the MBChB undergraduate medical curriculum both in clinical placements through our network of some 100 Practices and 120 GP tutors and within the central campus. The Unit is involved across all phases of the curriculum with approximately 1,000 students being placed in General Practices and palliative care hospices in South Yorkshire and the surrounding areas each year.

Our faculty have developed a wide range of expertise in innovative teaching and learning including consulting through interpreters and learning about diversity, cultural competencies, health inequities and change management. Each year the teaching faculty are also involved in delivering lectures and seminars on Diversity, Leadership, Prescribing, Chronic Disease Management and Health Equities as well as supervising student during their BMedSci and Student Selected Components.

The unit is starting to develop its profile in medical education research, particularly looking at how curriculum design might produce clinical practitioners to serve our communities in the future.
