Entry requirements

For our three-year BSc courses, we ask for the following qualifications at A Level, or equivalent:

  • ABB including Physics and Maths

For our four-year MPhys courses, we ask for the following qualifications at A Level, or equivalent:

  • AAA including Physics and Maths

Other qualifications

The following table lists some of the other qualifications we accept from students applying for one of our courses. If you have a question about your qualifications, please email physics.ucas@sheffield.ac.uk. Qualification BSc MPhys
A-levels ABB including Physics with practical endorsement and Maths AAA including Physics with practical endorsement and Maths
International Baccalaureate Diploma with score of 33 points including at least grade 6 in Higher Level Physics and Maths Diploma with score of 36 points including at least grade 6 in Higher Level Physics and Maths
Irish Leaving Certificate H1 H1 H2 H2 including Physics and Maths H1 H1 H1 H1 including Physics and Maths
Scottish Highers AABBB plus AB Advanced Highers in Physics and Maths AAAAB plus AA Advanced Highers in Physics and Maths
Physics with a Foundation Year

A typical offer for applicants taking A Levels would be BBB including Physics and/or Maths. We can accept other qualifications including Scottish Highers, Welsh Baccalaureate, Irish Leaving Certificate, International Baccalaureates and BTEC.
