Professor Enderby, Emeritus Professor of Community Rehabilitation at the University of Sheffield, was awarded an OBE for her dedicated service to speech and language therapy.
Professor Pam Enderby began her career as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1970, gained her PhD in 1983 and was awarded a fellowship of the College of Speech Therapists. She was later honoured with an MBE for services to speech and language therapy and awarded a doctor of science by the University of the West of England.
Professor Enderby has also been Chair of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, was President of the Community Rehabilitation Team Network and served as the President of the Society for Research in Rehabilitation. In recognition of her contributions, Professor Enderby was given a lifetime membership to the British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine. She has assisted the Department of Health on many working groups relating to policy and strategy development and was also Clinical Director of the South Yorkshire Comprehensive Research Network.
Professor Enderby has written around 160 academic papers, supervised over 20 PhD students, was the first female to be Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sheffield and was awarded an Emeritus Professorship with the University of Sheffield.
There are many people in the University and the profession of speech and language therapy who work hard and do an amazing job. I am slightly overwhelmed at being singled out for this honour. There is no doubt that I would not have got it if I hadn't had the opportunity of working with stimulating colleagues, progressive institutions as well as having a supportive family.
