- Profile
-
I trained as an orthoptist at University of Sheffield, and have worked in both Leicester and Sheffield. My experiences as a health care professional led to an interest in evidence-based medicine and a secondment to a research study based at ScHARR investigating the impact of age-related macular degeneration upon quality of life. I joined ScHARR as a research associate in 2005.
- Research interests
-
My research interests are health-related quality of life and patient outcome measures. In 2006 I was awarded a fellowship (Researcher Development Award) through the National Co-ordinating Centre for Research Capacity Development, NCCRCD).
My PhD involved designing a paediatric disease-specific health related quality of life measure for amblyopia. The Child Amblyopia Treatment Questionnaire (CAT-QoL) is a short questionnaire that was designed for children aged 4-7 years to measure the impact of amblyopia treatment from the child’s perspective.
Current projects
I am currently working on a number of projects that use patient-reported outcome measures and health-related quality of life.
These include:
- the development of a recovery instrument for use in mental health (ReQoL: Recovery of Quality of Life); and
- evaluating the importance of self-management in diabetes (ESMiD).
- EUS€REEN Project: Partner working on a proposal to develop equitable cost-effective vision screening throughout Europe
