I have worked in HEDS in September 2014 when I joined as a Research Associate in Health Econometrics.
I currently hold an MRC Skills Development Fellowship which will investigate BMI trajectories in older adults. The project has three main components: (1) longitudinal modelling of BMI trajectories using observational data with specific aim of determining distinct trajectories which subgroups of individuals are more likely to follow; (2) missing data methods development to address the problems of missing data which are common problems in longitudinal datasets and specifically in cohorts of older adults; (3) adaptation of the NIHR School for Public Health Research (SPHR) diabetes prevention economic decision model to determine the influence that missing data has on the estimated economic and equity impact of current interventions.
During the fellowship I will be working across departments in the University, HEDS, Public Health and the Sheffield Methods Institute (SMI) as well as collaborating with researchers in the Healthy Lifespan Institute.
Before working in ScHARR, I was funded by an ESRC CASE studentship in partnership with NICE as a PhD candidate. My PhD thesis was titled “A Public Health Approach to Childhood Obesity: The Role of Econometrics”. The thesis uses a variety of advanced econometric techniques over three empirical studies. These studies investigate the effects of breastfeeding on childhood obesity, the impact of an underlying family lifestyle on childhood obesity and the dynamic relationships between childhood obesity, family lifestyle and health.
Prior to my PhD, I completed an MSc in Financial Economics (2009-2010) in the Department of Economics and a BSc in Economics and Statistics (2006-2009) in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, both at the University of Sheffield.
