Dr Martin Nicklin (centre left), Leader of the MSc in Molecular Medicine said, “It’s a pleasure and an honour to award this prize to Catherine Troman (centre right) in the presence of Andy’s family.”

"The prize was originally proposed by the then Departmental Head, Professor Sheila Francis (left), to honour the life and work of our sorely missed colleague Professor Andrew Heath. Andy was a gentle intellectual giant who worked in the area of acquired immunology and was a kindly and enthusiastic teacher of about 500 students who passed through the MSc in Molecular Medicine, as well as many others across the University. Andy joined the University in 1994 and until his illness and untimely death in 2015, he worked, studied and taught in the Medical School. His many friends and colleagues are delighted to see that his contribution to the Department and the University is now going to be acknowledged annually.

The Andrew Heath Memorial Prize in Molecular Medicine will now be awarded every year to the consistently best student from the one year MSc in Molecular Medicine. Catherine is the most outstanding graduate of the class of 2018 and is the inaugural winner”.
