Your career
We provide advice, guidance and support in securing work experience, placements and graduate roles to help you discover and achieve your career goals.

There are a number of ways we support you in gaining knowledge, skills and experience required for life after university, which is why 98% of our graduates have found work - or are in related further study - within six months of graduation, according to the latest data available (DLHE 2016/2017).
How we support you
Within the department, we have a dedicated Placements and Employability and External Relations Manager, Amy Woolley, who not only offers CV, covering letter and application support, but can also help you find placements and graduate roles through her network of external employers.
Placements and work experience
Placements are open to all students in the department. They also form a compulsory part of our MPlan Urban Studies and Planning course, and are an optional component in our MSc Urban and Regional Planning.
Graduate job roles
Our graduates go on to a range of roles in both the public and private sectors. Graduates roles include town planners, transport planners, urban designers, surveyors, community development workers, regeneration officers, sustainability consultants and housing officers.
Recent graduates have gone on to work for a number of high profile organisations, including:
- AirBnB
- Arup
- BNP Paribas Real Estate
- CBRE
- Deloitte
- Leeds City Council
- Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government
- Peak District National Park
- Savills
- UN-Habitat
More information about the sort of jobs our graduates look for can be found on the Careers Service’s information resources.
Professional skills development
Throughout our modules we highlight the employability skills you are developing, making it easier for you to communicate these when applying for placements, further study, and graduate jobs.
