USP celebrates success in championing student voice in the 2023 NSS.

Four students look down on Sheffield city centre

The University of Sheffield’s Urban Studies and Planning Department has been placed 2nd for student voice in the Russell Group in the National Student Survey 2023. The Department was also placed 3rd overall for organisation and management and learning opportunities.

Head of Department Professor David Robinson said: “We are very pleased to receive recognition for student voice in our NSS results. Here in USP we are committed to working collaboratively with our students, listening to what they have to say and responding creatively to deliver the best student experience. It is gratifying that our students recognise that their opinions are valued. These excellent results in the NSS are a testament to the benefits of this partnership.”

The Department was voted the top RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) accredited planning school in the Russell Group for valuing the opinions of its students, and also for returning assessment and feedback to students on time.

More than 335,000 final year students from across the UK completed the survey in which they fed back on their experience of higher education.

This year, students placed Sheffield top of the UK’s 24 world class, research-intensive universities.

Sheffield received the highest positive responses to 27 questions that asked students to rate their academic experience, mental wellbeing, resources and support.
