Excellent results for ACSE in RAE2008

RAE2008: Automatic Control & Systems Engineering Research Excellence Recognised

The excellence of the research carried out in the department of Automatic Control & Systems Engineering has once more been recognized through the Research Assessment Exercise, an independent appraisal on behalf of the UK Government. We are ranked fifth* amongst UK Electrical & Electronic Engineering departments (amongst whom we were assessed) and 25% of our work received the highest possible accolade of "world-leading". A further 40% was deemed "internationally excellent" and, overall, 95% of our activity is recognised internationally. All eligible staff contributed to the review so the result is a clear reflection of the strength of the whole department.

This result reaffirms our position as one of the UK's leading research groups in EEE and the only one devoted to control and systems engineering. In the previous exercise, RAE2001, the Department achieved the highest possible rating.

* Ranked according to Olympic-style medal tables.
