Charuduth is from Mauritius and was part of the winning team which competed in the Siemens SustainaCity Racer Competition which could result in a placement at Siemens. He shares his experiences of studying in Sheffield and why he thinks his team won.

Why did you choose to study Computer Science at Sheffield?

I was really passionate about everything technology related and Sheffield just felt like the best place for me to start my career.

What do you enjoy most about your course and living in Sheffield?

I really like how much we can learn from the course together with my course mates. Sheffield is also a nice and pleasant area to live in. Another upside is that its close to the Peak District!

Why did you enter the competition?

I entered the Siemens SustainaCity 2021 Racer Competition because I was really interested about the theme of the competition, which was designing sustainable transport solutions for a city.

What did you have to do during the competition, what was your role in the team?

During the competition, my first role was to research about sustainable and innovative ways of transport. After that, I was part of the systems team  which had for task to develop and design the features and functionalities of the system. I also designed the presentation and made sure it was coherent.

What did you enjoy most about being in the competition?

I really liked how we had to work as a team with students from other universities. We had to make sure we research and put together everything that was appropriate for our solution in only one day.

Why do you think your team won?

We were able to work really well as a team. We divided ourselves into sub-teams and made good use of time. Also, our solution was innovative, sustainable and something that we could set up in no time.

What is your prize?

We each got a trophy, a giftcard and we will get the chance to be interviewed for a placement or graduate opportunity at Siemens.
