- Profile
-
I joined the University of Sheffield in 2007 as a Lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry. I completed the first part of my specialist training in Edinburgh in 2006 and then worked as a Senior Registrar at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne for six months before moving to Sheffield. I completed my NHS consultant training in 2009.
I was awarded an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship in 2012 and completed my PhD in 2015. In 2015 I was appointed Senior Lecturer and became the Lead Paediatric Dentist for the Trent Regional Cleft Network.
- Research interests
-
During my PhD I developed a measure of oral health-related quality of life for children with dental caries (CARIES-QC). This was developed with children and is being used in clinical trials to determine the impact of interventions for caries and has been translated into a number of languages.
Learn more about the CARIES-QC measure
My current research interests are focussed around the routine use of patient-reported outcome measures for children and young people. In particular, I'm interested in investigating the use of electronic methods for delivery of PROMs to paediatric patients and how the information generated by these can aid clinicians in diagnosis and treatment planning.

- Teaching interests
-
I am interested in developing novel digital learning tools to support clinical teaching. I was lucky to take part in the University of Sheffield's Digital Retreat, run by Elevate, and produced interactive digital scenarios to support student learning using Xerte Online Toolkits. Students requested this type of learning material to support their learning in conditions that they may see infrequently, such as dental trauma.

I am Programme Lead for the Master of and Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry (Paediatric Dentistry), the Co-Theme Leader for the Oral Cavity in Health and Disease theme (clinical component). I teach throughout the BDS and DH&DT curricula delivering lectures, tutorials and clinical teaching.
