The David Bradshaw Prize is awarded annually to an exceptional student on the BA Education, Culture and Childhood. BA Education, Culture and Childhood. Programme Co-directors Dr Jessica Bradley and Dr Yinka Olusoga considered eligible candidates for the prize reviewing the dissertations which have been awarded marks of over 80 and assessed the general contribution to the life and culture of the School and the programme, drawing on information about student volunteers at open days and recruitment events. As a result, they concluded that they would like to nominate two students for the prize this year, Sophia Ching-Han Yang and Martha Ward.

On hearing she had been awarded the David Bradshaw Prize, Sophia said, “I never expected to win a prize, but within these years, I’ve explored so much in the field and discovered what I’m passionate about. I’m truly grateful to be a part of the course, where I learn about education, not only theoretically but also through many role models (all the tutors and staff). Their care and rich knowledge have shown me what education really means. They’ve helped me to bring out a better version of myself! I’m excited to see where the future will take me, and now I can proudly say: I am a graduate of BA Education, Culture, and Childhood and I am Sheffield made!”

I am really passionate about the research I have done both as part of my degree and with the wider university and it is lovely to feel that my work has been acknowledged. I have been so grateful for my incredible course mates who have openly shared their thoughts and experiences and contributed so much to my learning.Thank you so much for giving me such a great degree experience!"

We would like to congratulate both Sophia and Martha and wish them all the very best as they continue their learning journey in Postgraduate study.
