Dr Tara Baldacchino

I joined the University of Sheffield in September 2006 on the MSc Advanced Control within what was then Automatic Control and Systems Engineering (ACSE) Department. In September 2007 I stayed in the department, this time as a PhD student focusing on statistical modelling. After a brief hiatus from academia between 2011 and 2012, I joined the University of Sheffield as a post-doctoral researcher holding a number of positions within the faculty of engineering. I became a University Teacher in 2016, and I got promoted to a Senior University Teacher in 2022.

My teaching interests focus on project based learning with a strong emphasis on both technical and professional skills. I specialise in embedding employability, and inclusivity (including inclusive engineering design) within my teaching content.

I currently lead embedded systems projects within the first and second year. The emphasis is on using a systems engineering approach to breaking down and solving problems. Inherent to embedded systems is teaching programming to make these systems achieve their desired functionality.
