Electrical and Electronic Engineering courses

We offer a range of IET-accredited degrees covering electrical and electronic, robotics, computer systems and control engineering which can be studied as a three year bachelor’s degree (BEng) or four year Bachelor’s degree (MEng) with an option to add a year in industry.

Our courses

We offer a range of fully accredited degree courses covering the wide spectrum of electrical and electronic, robotics, computer systems and control engineering.

Our Industrial Advisory Board features an extensive network of the major players in engineering, including Airbus, Arm, Arup, BAE Systems, Boeing, EDF, IBM, Mclaren, QinetiQ, Rolls Royce, Siemens, Thales, and ZF Group which guides our programme design and delivery.

Some of our modules provide take-home kits, and a form of a remote laboratory, which enable students to spend time flexibly, deeply understanding the systems they are studying.

Our graduates go on to work in the energy, communications, computer hardware and software engineering and the manufacturing sectors.

Course structure

Our courses offer a structured pathway to becoming a Chartered Engineer. In your first two years, you'll establish a strong foundation by learning core engineering principles. The third year allows you to specialize in a specific area to tailor your degree to your interests and career goals.

  • Communications

If you're on the MEng track, you will then undertake a more advanced project in your final year, deepening your expertise in your chosen field and gaining the advanced knowledge required for senior engineering roles.

Accreditation

All our courses are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). If you take our three year BEng you will need to complete some further learning to satisfy the requirements to achieve Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

A four year MEng meets all the academics standards for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

We recognise that ability can also be demonstrated through methods other than a standard set of A-Levels or equivalent qualifications. Our Access Sheffield scheme helps ensure that everyone who has the potential to succeed in our courses has the right opportunity to do so.

Student experience

Find out about our student's experiences of having a Year In Industry as part of their degree. Read about Tudor's year at McLaren and watch Callum's video below about his year at Rolls Royce.

Sheffield is also home to a large International College which offers foundation pathways onto our degree courses for overseas students.
