When I was looking at universities, I enjoyed the idea of doing a year in industry to improve my employability but also doing a year abroad to experience new environments - so I did both. I completed my year in industry at InnoTech Alberta, a research facility in Edmonton Canada.

I am proud of being a founding member of the General Engineering course society (GEMSoc) and seeing it continue to grow after my two years as Treasurer came to an end. My Year in Industry has led a graduate role at ARUP in September 2021.

I can't wait to work with SUEZ for my final year research project and then further on their graduate scheme in 2022. With new legislation regarding emissions & sustainability in the waste industry being drafted all the time, it's a very exciting time to be a part of the Suez Energy UK process technical team.

It made sense for me to undertake a broad-based engineering course to gain as much exposure to multiple fields of engineering

I wanted to develop sensibilities for the technical requirements of each field while creatively drawing from each.

Leo Russell- Moore MEng General Engineering with a Year in Industry- Materials Stream

I chose to specialise in Materials engineering, as this was one of the two routes into manufacturing engineering (the other being Mech Eng). Manufacturing engineering has always interested me greatly, as it is pretty general and interdisciplinary by nature, and potentially allows me to dive into sustainable materials and sustainable manufacturing, and sustainability is a particular area of passion for me.

Yi Jia Tan

Yi Jia Tan MEng General Engineering

I really wanted to study engineering, but I didn’t want to just focus on one field. Then I found out about this course, and I decided to study General Engineering. The thing that I enjoy most about this course is that I can learn things from more than one field of engineering.
