MGeogSci Geography 4 Years (F804)
This new physical geography course with an integrated masters follows the same structure and themes of the 3 year degree but adds an additional 4th year. In year 4, you will conduct your own advanced research project as part of an active research group, benefiting from our academic networks and expertise and further developing your professional and research skills.
The MGeogSci Geography course is built around our research expertise, from the beginning of the course you will be introduced to the cutting edge research that is shaping the discipline, taught by our world-leading academics. Alongside this you will receive training in the key methods, skills and approaches used to analyse and understand our environments. All our modules are organised into research themes that mirror our academic research clusters.
Cryosphere and Climate
Use a range of approaches from field and laboratory investigations, through Earth Observation, GIS analysis and numerical modelling to explore how ice sheets and icebergs impact on the ocean, its thermohaline circulation, and hence weather and climate, in the past, present and future.
Use present-day observations and research into processes shaping the earth’s surface, as well as evidence from the past, to understand the impact of climatic changes on different environments and the activities of humans who inhabit them.
Examine ecosystem processes at a variety of spatial scales, from the molecular and landscape scale, to the global system. A range of state-of-the-art monitoring techniques, from remote sensing to field sampling, are used as tools to assist environmental management and decision making.
Environment and Society
Bring together the expertise of human and physical geographers to address the social and environmental challenges posed by issues such as population growth, climate change, food security and sustainable energy.
