A thank you from rowing

Thanks to generous alumni supporters, the University of Sheffield Rowing Club has a new set of blades (oars) for the senior Women's squad.

In 2019 the Women's squad used the new set of blades in the biggest competition of the year, the Henley Women's Regatta. Qualifying for this prestigious race is a huge achievement.

What’s more the 2020/21 squad achieved some of the best results in the history of the club by racing at both BUCS Regatta and Henley Women's Regatta.

Rowing is considered a relatively expensive sport and therefore to ensure maximum impact, the team was keen to reuse the old set of blades; giving the novice squad the opportunity to upgrade.

From September 2021, the Rowing Club is aiming to qualify for the Henley Royal Regatta. The club also wants to improve accessibility to rowing at the university and city rowing clubs. And will therefore be aiming to build a juniors’ rowing section and introduce mixed ability rowing.

Thank you to everyone who donates to support student clubs like this. The funding has been extremely beneficial because being able to compete with proper equipment gives us the edge we need. And knowing there are people out there who want to see your club succeed really helps to shift our mindset and gives everyone a massive morale boost.”
