Profile

I joined the Mesothelioma UK Research Centre in 2021 as a Research Associate as part of the team working to improve patient and carer experience through research.

I have worked in the field of health research for some years, in a number of Research Associate roles in the Information School and School of Health and Related Research, and in my previous role as a Senior Public Health Analyst for Doncaster Public Health Intelligence Team.

Research interests

My research interests are in exploring experiences of health conditions; the role of carers; and support needs, especially around informational support.

I am also interested in the use of technology to support and enable people living with health conditions.

My previous projects include: -

  • Tools for Life’ exploring data sharing and public health
  • A Space for Sharing’ a qualitative analysis of empathy in online health forums in people living with Breast Cancer and Motor Neurone Disease:
  • Information needs of carers of people living with dementia (a qualitative study)
  • A variety of projects aimed at enabling people living with health conditions through technology as part of the Centre for Assistive Technology and Connected Healthcare research team e.g., Frailty, a prototype mobile phone for older people (MhealthAssist),

My PhD was funded by Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and explored activities within the home and health in older people living with heart failure, and the implications for a telecare sensor technology (2014).
