Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
The School of Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery is committed to taking positive action to ensure that all of our students, staff, and clinic service users feel included and are supported to flourish and succeed within our learning community.
In alignment and compliance with the Equality Act 2010, our key areas of work are linked to the protected characteristics age, race, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, and religion or belief. Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion work tracks the priorities outlined in the One University pillar of the University’s Vision.

Gender and Athena SWAN
The Athena SWAN Charter celebrates success in advancing gender equality in higher education and research. The University of Sheffield holds the Athena SWAN Silver Award for an ongoing commitment to progressing gender equality.
Since the formation of the School of Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery in September 2019, we have reaffirmed our commitment to the Athena Swan Charter by organising our first Athena Swan self assessment team. Prior to the formation of our School, both Nursing and Midwifery, and Human Communication Sciences, held Bronze Awards; Ophthalmology and Orthoptics shared in the School of Medicine and Population Health’s Silver Award. Thus, we bring a shared culture and track record of achievement to promote equality of opportunity and aspiration for staff and students of all genders.
Our current Athena Swan work is aligned closely to that of our EDI Committee and receives endorsement and support from our Dean, Professor Tracey Moore and the Executive Committee leadership team. For more information, contact the Athena Swan lead, Professor Patricia Cowell: firstname.lastname@example.org
