Pre-conference programme details

A 24-hour pre-conference offers a thought-provoking programme centred around four different 'tracks'.

The pre-conference begins Sunday 12 June 2022 from 4pm and concludes in time for the main conference start at 4pm on Monday 13 June 2022.

This is an opportunity to explore a number of key topics in depth. Sessions will be led by chaplaincy practitioners and we anticipate several of our conference keynotes will contribute to this programme including:

Participants can stay entirely within one track or choose to shift between tracks. Sectional tickets are available for those who cannot attend the whole pre-conference.

Chaplaincy and Empowerment

Through workshops and seminars this track explores:

  • How groups can be empowered through the work of chaplaincies, with a particular focus on women and minority groups
  • How chaplaincies can be empowering workplaces allowing diverse religion or belief practitioners to collaborate on an equal footing

Chaplaincy and Extremism

Through workshops and seminars this track explores:

  • The challenges chaplaincy staff face in addressing issues of extremism within the university community
  • The vital part chaplaincy has in opposing hate speech and reacting to hate incidents including of Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia

Chaplaincy and Research

Through workshops and seminars this track explores:

  • Research that has taken place into Chaplaincy practice and the way chaplaincies are changing their contribution to higher education
  • Broadens topics of research undertaken by chaplaincy practitioners that is of interest to other professionals in the same field

Chaplaincy and Spirituality

Through workshops and seminars this track explores:

  • How chaplaincy practitioners can foster and enrich their own personal, belief and spiritual development through practical sessions
  • How chaplaincy practitioners are innovating their practice to encourage the personal, belief and spiritual development of students and staff in higher education
