Entry requirements for students from Nigeria
We have been welcoming students from Nigeria for many years and our staff are very familiar with the Nigerian education system and qualifications.
High entrance requirements for our degree programmes at Sheffield reflect the quality of the University. The following information is for guidance only.
English Language Requirements
All applicants are required to have an internationally recognised English language qualification, such as IELTS or equivalent. SSCE (WAEC) English C6 or above can be accepted in place of IELTS or equivalent, however this is at the discretion of each individual department. In cases where we can accept, it is valid for up to 5 years until the start of your programme at Sheffield.
If you were awarded one of these qualifications more than five years before the start date of your Sheffield course, you can provide evidence of English proficiency through the following methods:
If you have been awarded a first degree or postgraduate diploma taught in English within 12 months of the start date of your Sheffield course, you should provide an official letter from your university that confirms you were taught in English.
You can also prove your English proficiency if you have at least 12 months of recent employment in a role which involves regular communication in English. You should include with your application an official letter from your current/most recent employer that confirms 1) your English language proficiency, 2) the dates of your employment and 3) how you use English in your role.
Should you wish to know the exact English language requirements for your chosen programme, please refer to the course pages.
