What made you choose to study at Sheffield and your course?

Choosing the university and course I would study for the next couple of years was a challenging task which required so much time and effort to find the most appropriate one for me. As I was searching, it has come to my attention that the university of Sheffield is from the Top 15 in the UK for Biological Sciences and is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, which could be a great addition to my CV and an attractive point for future employers. Not to mention that Sheffield being among the Top 5 for Biological Sciences Research was of interest to me, as graduating with competent research and practical skills would be essential for me to pursue a career in this field in the future.

How did you research the University to find out about studying in Sheffield?

Throughout high school, I was looking for top-ranked universities that would be relevant for me academically and personally. Sheffield was always on the top of the list and it was a dream of mine to be one of its students even before I decided the course I am willing to study. After I made the choice of course I was even more certain that Sheffield is the right place for me. All the information I was looking for and the questions I had were answered through the descriptive and very helpful university website which made the research process and decision-making by far easier than I expected.

What are you enjoying about your first semester?

As an international student, moving away from home to a new country and starting a new chapter in my life has been a concern of mine. I had in mind that it will take months to adjust to this new life. Surprisingly, from the endless support received from university staff whether via emails they sent, their immediate response to enquiries and most importantly orientation sessions conducted to guide new students and clear any doubts, I managed to overcome my fears and in a matter of days Sheffield felt just like home. I am thankful to all the staff that made us feel welcomed and provided us with all the resources and support whenever needed from the very start up until this day.
