"The programme is for the development of skills, knowledge and personal attributes that enhance my career."

What made you choose to study at Sheffield and your course?

This department has an employability team and website for planning job searches. The programme is for the development of skills, knowledge and personal attributes that enhance my career. The programme can offer an option to study in other European cities for a semester, which will broaden my horizon to other planning practices in other countries. This chance is unique among the UK planning master programmes, which suits me as a world explorer.

What are you enjoying about your first semester?

All modules have workshops or seminars in smaller classes to have group discussions on real planning cases in England. For example, we visited Park Hill, the public housing in Sheffield and evaluated there by the Place Standard tool in the first week. The Research Methods module is flipped-class learning which provides more opportunities for formative practices in the physical classes. Classmates in Sheffield with various specialities create meaningful discussions.

Sheffield is a green and hilly city without crowded plazas and high-rise buildings. Walking around the parks and farms in Sheffield gives me a refreshing day. Hiking in the Peak District national park on weekends is so convenient by buses and trains. Outdoor activities on sunny days can balance my intense studies.

What advice would you give to a student considering studying at the University of Sheffield?

The University of Sheffield welcomes students with different academic and industry backgrounds. In my planning classes, most of my classmates are not studying urban studies in their undergraduate studies. You will more engage in the studies by picking your favourite course rather than choosing the familiar one. It is brilliant to find a unique and outstanding position in the class or even in the industry
