The first time I heard about The University of Sheffield was through an agency in Mexico which  represents the University of Sheffield.  I was looking for Urban Studies programmes in the UK and my student advisor recommended a few. The programme at The University of Sheffield was the best as it aligned perfectly with my academic and professional goals. I was also very lucky to meet a University representative who visited Mexico the year before I came to Sheffield. I was able to ask many questions about the course and the city. The university webpage was also a key source of information (videos & blogs) about living in Sheffield and details about the course, which I found very helpful.

The city and the university are both friendly and diverse, which makes you feel welcome from day one. I love walking and green areas, so Sheffield being next to the Peak District National Park is one of my favourite things. Sheffield is a great and safe city. Since I arrived, I feel safe walking around the city and even with all the hills, it is a very walkable city, which makes it very pleasant. Sheffield has a great location, as it is easy to travel to and from other cities in the UK. The university is huge and I like that all the buildings are pretty much in the same area.

Sheffield truly is an affordable city! As a student, you can find good housing options according to your budget, and its the same for meals. Also, given that most of the places are quite close, spending money on transport is very low, and if you do need to use public transport it's very cheap and the transport network is well connected with other parts of the city.

Life as a student in Sheffield is very complete. The University offers good quality modules, great lecturers, opportunities to get involved in societies and great study spaces. The staff are very approachable and friendly. My course modules are designed to provide me with skills that will be useful after graduation, for example, analytical skills and how to prepare consultancy reports for external organisations. My programme is very multicultural, with people coming from all over the world and from different cities in the UK. This has made my academic experience even better as I am learning from each of them every day.
