Meet & Greet 2021

If you arrive into Manchester Airport during the main arrivals period in September, you may be able to use our Meet and Greet service to help you on your onward journey to Sheffield.

Overview

The Meet & Greet Service runs from Saturday 11th September to Sunday 19th September 2021 between 08.00 and 18.00. 

A team of Global Campus Ambassadors will welcome you to Manchester Airport and help you on your journey to Sheffield. The ambassadors will be dressed in orange.

Please note that we are unable to offer this service at any other UK airport.


Details

The journey by train to Sheffield is straightforward and involves just one change at Manchester Piccadilly station (MPS). 

The trains operate from a station in the airport and run approximately every 40 minutes. The typical journey time is around 1 hour 25 minutes, with a change time at MPS of around 15 minutes. Ticket prices vary at different times but are usually around £17. 

Our Ambassadors will accompany you to the ticket office to help you buy your ticket, and to the platform when it is time to board the train. During any waiting time, our Ambassadors will help you start to settle into life in the UK and will be able to answer your questions about Sheffield and the University.

At Manchester Piccadilly Station (MPS) you will be met by other members of the Global Campus Ambassador team who will help you make your connection, and a further team will meet you at Sheffield station. 

From Sheffield station, they will help you get a taxi to your final destination. Where possible, we will have an Ambassador meet you at your residence. We will let you know by email in advance if this is possible.


How to use the meet and greet service

If you would like to use our Meet and Greet service between 11th and 19th September please complete the form below:

When we have received your form we will send you an email response (please allow three working days) and provide you with any additional information you need.

If you are unable to use the form, please email us at globalcampus@sheffield.ac.uk. In your email you will need to provide the following information:

  • Full Name
  • Applicant number
  • Email address
  • Nationality
  • Level of study (UG, PG, other)
  • Expected arrival date / time (if known)
  • Airline / Flight no. (if known)
  • Preferred method of ongoing travel (train, pre-booked taxi, make arrangements on arrival, not sure yet)
  • Will you be travelling with friends / family, if so, how many?

Other travel options

While the train service between Manchester Airport and Sheffield is very convenient, we appreciate that some people might prefer to travel by private taxi. We can help you book a taxi in advance, and on arrival at the airport our Ambassadors will show you where to go to meet it.
