Equality and Diversity

Welcome to the School of Health and Related Research's (ScHARR's) Equality and Diversity pages. ScHARR is fully committed to supporting an inclusive culture for our staff and students who come from a wide range of backgrounds. The ScHARR Equality and Diversity Committee has developed several initiatives to build on our inclusive culture including equality and diversity training for all staff. Ideas and suggestions from staff and students on ways to improve equality and diversity in ScHARR are encouraged.

ScHARR Silver Athena Swan

Our Second Silver Award

In April 2017 ScHARR once again received the Athena SWAN Silver Award in recognition of our commitment to equality. Since our first award in 2014 the Athena SWAN charter was expanded to recognise work undertaken in a wider range of disciplines, and in professional and support roles as well as academics, and for trans staff and students. The charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women. AS 2017 group
ScHARR is proud to have a supportive culture and promote practices which enable all members of staff to develop their careers. Some of these practices have had a real impact, for example putting measures in place to ensure a smooth transition back to work after parental leave. Over 35% of our staff work part time and many have flexible working arrangements to enable them to fulfill family and other commitments.
