Capitalism, Democracy & the State

Off

It’s over a decade since the global financial crisis – but capitalist societies remain in flux.

Sustained low growth, weakening US leadership, resurgent protectionism, environmental degradation, and the so-called rise of populism all challenge the liberal global order.

This research theme analyses the tensions and opportunities emerging from these destabilising tendencies as they play out across the UK, Europe, the US, and beyond. Taking account of the diversity of capitalist societies, our aim is to make sense of and contribute to new thinking and practices in this period of uncertainty and transformation.
