Jamie Peck is Canada Research Chair in Urban & Regional Political Economy, Distinguished University Scholar, and Professor of Geography at the University of British Columbia, and a Global Professorial Fellow at Western Sydney University’s Institute for Culture and Society.
Professor Peck is an institutional political economist, working on a range of issues relating to economic geography, urban restructuring, labour regulation, and contemporary statecraft. His research program has been primarily concerned with the ways in which ostensibly global processes—for example, forms of market-oriented governance (a.k.a. neoliberalization)—are (re)made through local sites, extended networks, and grounded practices. His current research is focused on political and economic transformations in Hong Kong and South China.
A Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences, Jamie is the Managing editor of EPA: Economy and Space and one of the co-editors of the Economic Transformations book series with Agenda Publishing
His recent books include Doreen Massey: critical dialogues, edited with Marion Werner, Rebecca Lave and Brett Christophers (2018), Offshore: exploring the worlds of global outsourcing ( 2017), and Fast policy: experimental statecraft at the thresholds of neoliberalism, with Nik Theodore (2015).
