Spring Semester Orientation 2024

During the week before the start of the new teaching session, Global Campus will be running a number of events to help you settle in. As usual, most of these will be facilitated by our experienced Global Campus Ambassadors identifiable from their orange ‘Welcome to Sheffield’ tops.

On

This year, Spring Orientation will run on the 1, 2 and 3 February 2024.

Each day starts off with Icebreaker sessions run by the Ambassadors to help you start getting to know others with a variety of fun activities. There are also daily Campus and City tours led by our Ambassadors which set off from the central campus area known as Concourse. If at any time you are not sure about the schedule or where to meet, or need additional information, look for our friendly Global Campus Ambassadors!

And don’t forget to check out Global Cafe on Thursday. This is our flagship Global Campus event that we run each week during the academic year. Held in Coffee Revolution in the Students' Union, it’s a great place to unwind and get to know other students from around the world. And the tea and coffee is free!

Be sure also to check out the full term-time Global Campus programme and find out many other ways you can meet up with others and settle into University life in the weeks and months ahead.

We end each day for Spring Orientation with a social event. Be it at our Interactive Challenge or Sheffield City and UK Quiz, you’ll have a brilliant time meeting new people, making friends and beginning to find your community here in Sheffield. There will also be an opportunity to explore the surrounding areas of Sheffield by taking part in a hike to end Spring Orientation, in collaboration with SUWC (Sheffield University Walking Club).

Disability and Dyslexia Support Service

The Disability and Dyslexia Support Service (DDSS) will be delivering sessions during Orientation 2024 to help you settle into university and make sure you know how to set up your DDSS support. These sessions are marked in the schedule with an asterisk (*). The DDSS sessions are for disabled students to attend - students are considered to be disabled if they have a long-term impairment or condition that impacts on their studies (including students who have a mental health condition, long-standing illness or health condition, or are autistic).

You can find more information about DDSS and how they can help your transition to university life at our Transition to University web pages.

Share your disability information on the Expression of Interest formIf you are not sure about taking part in a particular activity or need help at any time, talk to a member of the Global Campus Ambassador Team (in orange) who can put you in touch with a member of staff from DDSS if needed.

Orientation Week will run on 16 - 20 September 2024. More information, including the programme schedule, will be updated to this page shortly.

Our Orientation events and activities are designed to give you a little extra time to settle into life in Sheffield and the University.

We hope you enjoyed the various infotalks, activities and events and have started to feel a sense of belonging and community to the University of Sheffield and the wider city.
