Zebrafish Husbandry Meeting - 28th February 2018
The Bateson Centre hosted a Zebrafish Husbandry Meeting at the University of Sheffield, attended by 52 delegates from 26 different UK and European facilities and 4 companies.
The meeting included several talks on the subjects of 'Diets in Sheffield', 'ZFIN Health and Welfare Glossary', 'Environmental Enrichment' and 'Anaesthesia and Analgesia'. Bateson Centre Aquarium Manager, Claire Allen, spoke about the Sheffield aquarium, 3Rs in protected work and gave an update from the Zebrafish Husbandry Association 2018 Aquaculture meeting in Las Vagas.
Group discussions included diet and welfare and there was also a survey of general practice. Questions included their parameters in pH, temperature and conductivity, which can vary greatly between facilities. We completed the day with a tour of the facility and further discussions were then had in the pub and at the restaurant Hui Wei, while the snow fell outside.
