Meet our Wellbeing Advisor, Mel Wise
In the School of Computer Science, the wellbeing of our students is incredibly important to us.
That’s why we have our own, dedicated Wellbeing Advisor on hand to offer support and guidance to students of all levels across the school.
Melanie (Mel) Wise, who has a MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL, MSc in Psychology, and a professional PGDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy, started out in English language education in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, spending 15 years working with international students.
Through this experience Mel developed a special interest in the social and emotional aspects of learning, and the importance of wellbeing in education. Since qualifying as a counsellor and psychotherapist , Mel’s gained several years experience of supporting vulnerable adults in a range of third sector and NHS mental health settings.
As Wellbeing Advisor in the School of Computer Science, Mel provides a friendly, confidential and reflective space for students to explore any difficulties they may be having.
“There are lots of positives about being at university, but we all struggle at times and it’s not unusual to have difficulties at a time when experiencing lots of change.
Mel Wise
Wellbeing Advisor, School of Computer Science
“I believe in empowering students to overcome the challenges they may face in university, and in life more generally.
“We do this by working together to develop tailored, individual support to help them cope in the short-term and thrive in the long-term.”
Students can book an appointment with Mel here.
Mel’s role is a collaboration between the School of Computer Science and the University’s Student Wellbeing Service.
Further guidance and support can also be found on the Mental Health webpages.
