The Guardian University Guide has established itself as a key league table for UK universities and features league tables ranking universities on a number of criteria; including student satisfaction scores based on courses, teaching and feedback, as well as the proportion of graduates in employment or further study after graduation.

In addition, the guide ranks by subject area, and scored engineering subjects at Sheffield within the top 10 places to study for:

  • Mechanical engineering (5th)
  • General engineering - which includes our materials science and engineering and bioengineering courses (5th)
  • Aerospace engineering (6th)
Engineering courses also ranked in the top 20 places to study for the following: Computer science and information systems (11th), civil engineering (11th), Electronic and electrical engineering (which includes our courses in our Department of Automatic Controls and Systems Engineering) (19th)

Professor Jim Litster, VP and Head of Engineering, said: "I"m delighted with such positive results for departments across the Faculty of Engineering in this year's rankings. These outcomes reflect our commitment to excellence in learning and teaching, delivering a world-class education and outstanding student experience, and providing our graduates with the best career prospects possible and engineers ready to solve the grand challenges of today and the future."
