This year’s survey has ranked Engineering’s materials science course as the best in the UK for satisfaction levels, with a further five engineering courses in the top five: aeronautical and aerospace engineering (2), mechanical engineering (3), materials technology (3), engineering (non-specific) (3), chemical, process and energy engineering (5).

Engineering also ranked number one in the Russell Group, the association of leading UK research-intensive universities, for six subjects, including materials science, aeronautical and aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, materials technology, production and manufacturing engineering and computer science.

The Faculty is in the top three in the Russell Group in all nine question categories, with the annual survey asking students for their views on key aspects of their University experience. This includes teaching, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, learning community and student voice, as well as overall satisfaction.

Professor Jim Litster, Vice-President and Head of Engineering at The University of Sheffield, said: “These fantastic results are a testament to our dedicated, innovative and supportive teaching and student support staff. I am so grateful to all of them for their hard work in being recognised by our students as delivering some of the best learning and teaching nationally.

“Our students are the engineers of the future, so it’s incredibly important that we listen to and act on their feedback and insights. This will continue to help us develop our student experience in the Faculty and provide them with the best possible opportunities while they are studying here.”

The annual league table has shown that overall satisfaction among University of Sheffield students across all faculties is two per cent above the national sector-wide average. The award-winning Students’ Union has also been recognised within the rankings, with satisfaction 15 per cent above the sector average, placing it first in the Russell Group.
