Explanation of Grade and Results Codes on Undergraduate Transcripts

|70-100||work of a Class 1 standard|
|60-69||work of a Class 2.1 standard|
|50-59||work of a Class 2.2 standard|
|45-49||work of a Class 3 standard|
|40-44||work of a Pass standard|
For units at FHEQ Level 7 taken by students commencing Level 3 or 4 in or after September 2014, any grade between 0-49 is defined as Fail.

For the MBChB, undergraduate Dentistry courses and any Achieve More module; D alongside any grade or module outcome indicates a Distinction
*prior to 2009-10 a grade of 0 was defined as Work not submitted.
|Module / Unit Outcome Codes|
|DE||Deferred Result||Where a module/unit result has been delayed but is expected to be available shortly the module/unit outcome code is recorded as DE in the first instance and the correct module/unit grade and outcome notified subsequently.|
|EX||Exempt||Where a student has been formally exempted, as a result of previous study or work experience, from a module/unit which would normally be part of their degree programme, a module/unit outcome code of EX is recorded.|
|F||Fail||Where a student has attempted the assessment/examination for a module/unit and been awarded an overall fail numerical grade, then the corresponding module/unit outcome code is recorded as F.|
|MD||Module Dropped (after the add/drop period)||Where a student has been permitted to drop a module/unit after the end of the third week of the semester (the Add/Drop period) the module is not deleted from the student’s record, but a module/unit outcome code of MD is recorded.|
|NA||Not Assessed||Where a student has not attempted assessment/examination by arrangement with the examining department (normally after the production of written medical evidence) or where a department has requested that the Faculty record a student’s module/unit result as Not Assessed for legitimate (e.g. medical) reasons, the module/unit outcome code of NA will be recorded with no numerical grade.|
|NC||Not Completed||Where a student has not submitted work/taken an examination without the agreement of the department concerned or where work submitted/examination taken is deemed to be of no academic merit or where a department or the University Discipline Committee have made a decision to invoke the relevant General Regulations to refuse or deny credit for a module/unit, then a module outcome code of NC may be recorded with no numerical grade.|
|P||Pass||Where a student has attempted the assessment/examination for a module/unit and been awarded an overall pass numerical grade, then the corresponding module/unit outcome code will be P.|

|2.1||Class 2 Division 1 Honours|
|2.2||Class 2 Division 2 Honours|
|3||Class 3 Honours|
Non-modular programmes of study:
If you are registered on a non-modular programme of study, please ignore any reference to credits.
Please note: A star (*) appearing against a unit on your online UG statement of results means that the unit(s) is not for credit and therefore will not count for the purposes of progression and degree award.
