Applying and deadlines for the Study Abroad Programme

The way to apply for a place on the Study Abroad Programme is to complete an on line application form.

Depending on whether you are an exchange student or sponsored/ independent fee paying student, the process is slightly different. Please read the relevant section that applies to you.

Step 1

Your home University MUST officially nominate you via our online nomination form.

Step 2

Shortly after your home University has nominated you, Global Opportunities & Exchanges will send you an email with a link to the online application. Please download the Application Guide available on the right of this page. Please read it very carefully before submitting your application.

Please check your email regularly for correspondence from globalopps@sheffield.ac.uk.

You should email Global Opportunities & Exchanges (globalopps@sheffield.ac.uk) with the following details and a request for the link to the online application:

  • Full Name:
  • Name of home University:
  • Semester you wish to study in Sheffield:
  • Degree title:
  • Email address:
  • Current English language score (only if English is not your first language):
  • Department(s) in which you wish to study:

Who will pay your tuition fees?

If you will be sponsored, please also give the full details of the person who will be invoiced for your tuition fees.

Step 2

Global Opportunities & Exchanges will send you the link to the online form by email. Please download the Application Guide available on the right of this page. Please ensure you read it very carefully before submitting your application.


Step 3 (all applicants)

Complete the online application and upload your supporting documents.

DO NOT SUBMIT ANY OTHER DOCUMENTS THAN THE ITEMS LISTED BELOW

THE DOCUMENTS SHOULD BE IN ELECTRONIC FORMAT:

Valid file formats are:
.jpg, .png, .gif, .pdf, .doc, .docx, .odf

  1. Your most recent transcript of records, showing the modules you have studied and any results (official and in English)
  2. Reasons for applying (outlining the reasons why you wish to study at the University of Sheffield. Max 1000 words)
  3. One academic reference (must be from someone who teaches you an academic subject)
  4. English Language Proficiency certificate (IELTS or another accepted test) – only if English is not your first language
  5. ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS ONLY: Please also send a digital portfolio of approximately 10 pages (max file size 20MB) providing a sample of your work to date.

Application Deadlines

We recommend that you apply as early as possible to ensure that you receive all necessary information in good time.

You must complete the online application and upload all the above documents by:

  • 1 May (for full year and autumn (Fall) semester students)
  • 1 October (for spring semester and reverse full year students)

Architecture students

You must complete the online application and upload all the above documents by:

  • 1 April (for full year and autumn (Fall) semester students)
  • 1 September (for spring semester and reverse full year students)

Late applicants will not be offered studio modules.


Exchange students: please be aware that your home university may have an earlier on campus application deadline, check with your International/Exchange Office ASAP
