University announces opening of new multi‐storey car park
The University of Sheffield is delighted to announce that its new multi‐storey car park will open next week.
The state‐of‐the‐art facility, on Durham Road, will open on Monday 7 March 2016. It includes 561 car parking spaces and will be managed by Q‐Parks on behalf of the University.
Within easy walking distance of the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Children’s Hospital, the complex will offer ample disabled parking and allocated parent and child spaces across eight levels, as well as a new retail store.
Around 100 spaces will be available to reserve by patients and visitors to the Sheffield Children’s Hospital, with a further 120 to replace spaces being removed from the University campus through the ongoing initiative to improve public spaces and make the campus more pedestrian and cycle friendly.
The remaining 300 plus spaces will be available to the general public, providing much needed additional car parking spaces at this end of the city centre.
There will be easy access to the car park via Durham Road, with 24 hour CCTV in place.
Adam Bidder, Managing Director of Q‐Park, said: “We are extremely pleased to be operating this new parking facility for the local community. It is important to us to provide a car park fit for purpose as we want to eliminate the stress of parking, especially for families who are visiting the hospital.”
Keith Lilley, Director of Estates and Facilities Management at the University of Sheffield, said: “We’re delighted that the new Durham Road car park will be opening next week. It will not only play an enormous part in helping us to transform the public spaces around the University campus by allowing us to relocate car parking spaces from the centre to the periphery of the campus, but it will also be of huge benefit to all those visiting the Children’s Hospital. It will also provide much‐needed public parking in this part of the city, so we’re sure it will be extremely well‐used.”
