Innovative project linking high-tech SME's with leading research groups

Professor Peter Fleming has been awarded a grant of £118k from the EC for his project 'RAISME (Rapid Application Innovation of SMEs)'.

The RAISME funded project will enable three leading European research groups to align with high-tech SMEs (small-to-medium enterprises) with niche skills to rapidly build and scale innovative ICT applications through the collaborative use of advanced “mashup” technology and cloud computing. The RAISME SMEs aim to be at the vanguard of a new business paradigm where the end-user becomes part of the product development lifecycle, thus accelerating it, and where importing innovations from the internet allows faster exploitation of knowledge and productivity. The research groups have already developed state-of- the-art visualization, optimization and integration tools boot-strap a series of niche applications brought to the project by the SMEs to deliver highly innovative knowledge services to the market. As research specialists in multicriteria decision-making (MCDM), the Sheffield team is designing MCDM software for integration into the platform.
