LizzieWhy Elephants

Sheffield is known internationally for it's steel production and is established as one of England's main indussrial cities. From 1916, an elephant called Lizzie was employed through WW! as the city's horses were enrolled by the military. Lizzie carted heavy loads of steel and machinery through the city's streets for Thomas Ward Ltd. Herd of Sheffield will celebrate the 100th anniversary of this special elephant and reaffirm the legacy of innovation which still exists in our city today.

Make sure to look out for the elephants around Sheffield's city centre and around campus, follow the trail and collect points with the Herd of Sheffield app.
