After completing his PhD at the University of Sheffield in 1975, Steve joined the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering as a Lecturer in the same year. Steve rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 1990 and following a highly successful 40 year career he retired in 2015.
Steve was a leading authority on nonlinear system identification, signal processing and analysis in the time, frequency and spatio-temporal domains. He produced over 400 publications and pioneered the well-known NARMARX methodology, which has received significant attention from the international community and has now been applied by researchers all over the world in many disciplinary areas, including space research, environmental studies, brain and neural science, material design, and digital manufacturing.
