Professor George Panoutsos becomes Head of Department 

Professor George Panoutsos has started his role as the Head of the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering.

Professor George Panoutsos has started his role as the Head of the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering this month.

George steps down from his role as Director of Research and Innovation for the Faculty of Engineering, where he successfully led the Faculty of Engineering through the 2021 REF submission. 

George follows Professor Daniel Coca who leaves the University of Sheffield to start a new post at the University of Newcastle. 

Professor Panoutsos, said: “I would like to thank Daniel for all of his efforts leading ACSE over the past eight years through some challenging times.”

“As we begin the new academic year, I’m looking forward to a positive and productive year. I really hope to build on the great work that staff in ACSE are doing and also develop new initiatives and work with new staff in the wider Faculty and University.”

George Panoutsos received his PhD degree from the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering from the University of Sheffield in 2007. He joined the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering as a Lecturer in 2010, and was promoted to Professor of Computational Intelligence in 2019.
